Patrycja Baranowska, PhD, from the CEZAMAT Centre for Advanced Materials and Technology at the Warsaw University of Technology, is doing an internship at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia IBEC.

As many as 4 employees of CEZAMAT WUT were winners of the first edition of the competition ‘Best of the best at WUT’. Thanks to this competition, Patrycja Baranowska from the Department of Medical Biotechnology was able to take part in a three-month internship at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in the Nanobioengineering group.

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia IBEC conducts basic and applied research in bioengineering and nanomedicine, with experts working on tissue regeneration, biomechanics, molecular dynamics, biomimetics, drug delivery, organs ‘on a chip’ and cell migration.

Patrycja Baranowska’s research internship is on modern systems for cellular research. The work focuses on the development of a blood-brain barrier-on-a-chip (BBB-on-chip) mapping model and its integration with biosensors.

The ‘Best of the best at WUT’ competition is designed to support young scientists in the development of their academic careers and is implemented as part of the ‘Excellence Initiative – Research University’ programme.

Recruitment for the second edition of the competition is currently underway.
