CEZAMAT at the conference Defence24 Day

On May 24-25, 2022 CEZAMAT representatives participated in the conference Defence24 Day. They presented solutions in the field of microcircuits and semiconductors, radiolocation and imaging methods. The main partner of the event was the Warsaw University of Technology.


During the Defence24 Day conference, participants could learn about the technological possibilities of CEZAMAT laboratories and see two projects of the Warsaw University of Technology. The first one was prepared by the spin-off company XY-Sensing. The author of the second project is Damian Gromek, PhD Eng. from the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology of the Warsaw University of Technology. The guest of honor at the conference was Professor Adam Woźniak, Vice-Rector for Development at Warsaw University of Technology, who presented the potential of cooperation between science and the military sector in the presentation block “Modernization of the Air Defense Forces”. Our scientists also participated in discussions, meetings and debates.

 


The XY-SAR Sensor is a compact, miniaturized radar for imaging the earth’s surface, regardless of weather conditions and the time of day and year. The device allows for accurate recognition of terrestrial objects and their electronic mapping in the distance range from 20 to 200 m. The solution guarantees a significant resolution and distinguishability of objects, even up to 30 cm. The radar can have a very wide range of applications, such as: comparing environmental changes for agricultural or forestry applications, monitoring of critical infrastructure or protection of strategic ground objects.

 


The demonstrator of the inertial navigation support system for rockets and precision ammunition is a project prepared by Damian Gromek, PhD Eng. In that technology, a navigation correction was based on a comparison of the SAR display with the characteristics of the terrain. This solution increases the accuracy of missile and ammunition guidance. Low transmission power can help hide the device and reduce the possibility of detection. The device uses two communication channels, thanks to which it is possible to work in the interferometric mode.

 


Professor Romuald Beck, Deputy director for science from CEZAMAT represented the Warsaw University of Technology during the debate “The battlefield of the future. Towards breakthrough and emerging technologies”. The discussion was also attended by Gen. Dariusz Malinowski – Deputy Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, colonel Przemysław Kukawski – Chief Specialist of the Head of Research and Development at the Armaments Agency, Adam Bartosiewicz – Vice President of the Management Board of the WB Group and Professor Piotr Szynkarczyk – Director of Łukasiewicz – Industrial Institute for Automation and Measurements PIAP.
The discussion was preceded by the screening of the film “Slaughterbots”, which presented a vision of the future. The unmanned aerial vehicle systems presented in the film are the size of a hand and could operate in a swarm to eliminate selected targets. The miniaturization of devices is closely related to the progress in the production of microcircuits and semiconductors.

These issues were addressed by prof. Beck, talking about the tools and possibilities of financing small-scale production of integrated circuits at CEZAMAT. – The CEZAMAT building is perfectly adapted to the production of integrated circuits. Our building was designed for this purpose. Our laboratories would allow us to reduce the production time by half, and the production costs by more than a half – says prof. Beck. The project is real and would be extremely important for increasing the safety of integrated circuits and allowing for full production control.
